The Helper role is a trial position that anyone who meets our requirements can apply for.
On Snapcraft, a Helper is a trial staff role focused primarily on learning and gaining experience. Helpers are not expected to handle every situation themselves; instead, they should support players with basic issues, observe how senior staff operate, and seek guidance when complex problems arise. With limited permissions, their main priority is to build confidence, understand server protocols, and develop the skills needed for the Mod role. Taking initiative is secondary to learning and understanding the proper protocol in this position, as performance in this trial position determines whether they are promoted to Moderator.
Anyone may apply for Helper by creating an application. Once an application is submitted, it may take 1-3 days until it is thoroughly reviewed by the Staff Manager. Once an application has been reviewed, the Staff Manager selects any worthy candidate for consideration. Following consideration, the applicants information will be shared with senior staff for further review.
If an applicant receives primarily positive feedback after being reviewed during consideration, the Staff Manager will invite the applicant to an interview.
Once an applicant has been officially invited to an interview, the Staff Manager will give them the Applicant role in our Discord server to grant them access to our interview chat. From this point, an interview time and date will be scheduled and completed.
The interview will be held by the Staff Manager. However, other senior staff are invited to join. The participating staff members in the interview will discuss their opinions after the interview has taken place. It may be up to 24 hours before an applicant hears back at this point.
After the interview, the Staff Manager makes the final decision to accept or deny an applicant.
If an applicant is denied, they will receive the denial message to their application with feedback. They must wait the time provided in their denial message to re-apply. Applicants should only re-apply once they have truly improved from the provided feedback.
If an applicant is accepted, they will receive the acceptance message to their application with further instructions.
Once an applicant is officially accepted, they will receive their Helper role shortly after. Their trial begins on the day they are given the role. Helpers will receive a Mentor upon being accepted into our staff team. This Mentor will be with them from day one to the end of their trial.
Helpers will gain access to their in-game and Discord permissions from day one. While they are permitted to use these permissions if they feel comfortable, we encourage Helpers to take a step back, observe, and learn from their Mentor and senior staff before jumping into action. The goal is not to over-perform or impress by taking charge of every situation. Acting impulsively or trying to "show off" does not reflect well and will not improve one's chances of passing the trial.
The trial begins the day a Helper receives their role. They will be introduced to their new permissions, staff documents, staff chats, and assigned a Mentor.
The trial lasts approximately 90 days and is divided into three stages. Helper's are guided through the core fundamentals of being a staff member with each stage. Mentors are responsible for ensuring the Helper remains focused on the training priorities specific to each stage.
At the end of each stage, Helpers will be individually evaluated on that stage's topic by the Staff Manager. Additionally, each Mentor will submit an evaluation of the Helper's performance during that stage.
Once the 90 day trial is complete, Mentors will submit their final evaluations of their Helper(s). The Staff Manager will review these alongside all previously submitted evaluations. After this review, the Staff Manager will meet individually with each Helper for a final evaluation and make a final decision regarding their position.
If a Helper has passed their trial, they will be promoted to Mod and receive any new permissions and documents.
If a Helper does not pass their trial, they will be removed from the Helper role and placed on a probationary period before becoming eligible to re-apply. This is not considered a demotion, nor does it necessarily mean they did anything wrong. There are many reasons someone might not pass a trial, but ultimately, it means we feel they may not be ready for staff responsibilities at this time.
